MANIK SARKAR APPEALS TO PEOPLE OF KERALA

RE-ELECT LDF FOR STAKE IN DEVELOPMENT

During his two day election campaign in Kerala on April 8 and 9, CPI (M) Polit Bureau member and Tripura chief minister, Manik Sarkar, launched a frontal attack on Congress for indulging in unprecedented corruption. He called on the people of Kerala to punish it in the elections to the state assembly.

Addressing a series of well attended campaign meetings in Kochi, Palakkad and Thrissur districts, Manik Sarkar said the Rs 1.76 lakh crore money looted in the 2G spectrum scandal would have been enough to feed the entire people of the country by providing 35 kg of foodgrains for three years. The UPA-II government has consistently refused to heed the demand for providing foodgrains through ration shops to all the poor disregarding the distinction of APL and BPL.

The warnings issued by CPI (M) leader Sitaram Yechury about the 2G spectrum scam through his letters to the PM fell on deaf ears. These elections are taking place in the backdrop of high rising prices of essential commodities and unprecedented corruption. The central government has expressed helplessness in curtailing the prices. On the contrary it is eager to promote the interests of the few billionaires neglecting the millions of poor in the country. The UPA-II government has given a free hand to its cronies to loot the public money, charged Sarkar. He said people who want a stake in the prosperity of the country should vote for the LDF in these elections.

Sarkar said the misery of people in Indian has grown manifold under the UPA government as the prices of the essential commodities have shot up. The Congress-led central government is willingly unable to check the price rise. By contrast, the steps taken by the CPI (M)-led Left governments in various states have provided relief to the people. He cited the good implementation of PDS in the Left-ruled states as an instance. He called on the people of Kerala to re-elect the LDF so that the exceptional pro-people governance of the LDF government can be sustained.
