SUB SAHARAN AFRICA
The region that lies south of the Sahara, the world’s hottest desert, in Africa is geographically referred to as Sub-Saharan Africa (see picture). Politically, all African countries – excluding Sudan – that lie partially or completely south of Sahara are referred to as Sub-Saharan.
Linguistically, this region displays more diversity than any other part of the world. It consists of over 1,000 spoken languages, which amounts to more than a sixth of all the languages in the world. Zulu is one such language that is spoken in this region by over 10 million native people.
