UNITED STATES DOLLAR

United States Dollar

US$ is also called United States dollar or American dollar. It is the currency of the United States of America. A dollar is divided into 100 units called cents.

The US$ is used in various countries for transactions.

The symbol $ is generally written before the amount. The p and s from the scribal abbreviation of the peso were written over each other, which lead to the dollar sign that we have today.

A few believe that the dollar sign comes from the Pillars of Hercules on the Spanish Coat of arms on the Spanish dollars.

These spanish dollars were minted in the New World mints in Mexico City, Potosí, Bolivia, and in Lima, Peru.
