If someone comes up to you and says Sawubona , they are just saying hello to you in the Zulu tongue. This language, belonging to the Zulu people, is majorly spoken by those living in South Africa. In fact, Zulu language is one of South Africa’s eleven official languages.
South Africa’s singing sensation and actor, Lira, was one among many selected to perform at Barack Obama’s inaugural celebrations on Monday. She planned to dedicate her own composition, a Zulu love song “Ngiyazifela”, to America’s first couple, whom she sees as an inspiration.
